The athletic landscape of the United Arab Emirates is undergoing a remarkable technological and structural evolution, prioritizing grassroots development like never before. Leading this transformative charge, the Sharjah Sports Council discusses launching a platform to attract talent, a move that promises to redefine how the emirate identifies and nurtures its future champions. This brilliant initiative underscores a massive commitment to empowering youth and building an internationally competitive sports ecosystem.

During a recent periodic meeting presided over by Chairman Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Humaid Al Qasimi, the Board of Directors laid out a comprehensive blueprint for the emirate’s sporting future. Alongside approving the annual summer program “A Holiday Reimagined 2026,” the leadership actively focused on establishing a centralized, data-driven platform aimed at drawing in top-tier athletes. This proposed digital infrastructure is not just a registry; it is a dynamic ecosystem designed to track, evaluate, and elevate gifted individuals across multiple disciplines.

The foundation for this platform is already being heavily tested on the ground. Recently, the council reached the fourth phase of its rigorous talented athlete assessment program, which saw the participation of 70 promising individuals. These participants were evaluated using state-of-the-art measurement devices tailored specifically to the physical requirements of their respective sports, ranging from fencing and archery to rowing, sailing, and athletics.

Emphasizing the analytical rigor behind this initiative, Imran Al Jasmi, Director of the Sports Affairs and Development Department at the council, highlighted the necessity of data in modern athletic development. He stated that these precise assessments “are the best way to assess and evaluate players’ abilities from one stage to another”. Al Jasmi further elaborated that a specialized committee meticulously oversees this process, utilizing a detailed database within the Talent Care Department. This continuous monitoring ensures the “continuous development of athletes’ talents and analysis of results after each phase,” paving a clear path to produce future champions.

This localized effort aligns perfectly with the broader national strategy championed by the UAE Ministry of Sport, which recently rolled out its own ‘Talent Committee Platform’. That federal platform, integrated with the ‘Sportifai’ digital system, provides real-time monitoring of performance. H.E. Dr. Al Falasi, highlighting the importance of such technologies, noted that creating an intelligent ecosystem is essential to identify promising individuals early and support their growth through structured, data-driven programs. Sharjah’s localized approach ensures that athletes from clubs in Al Madam, Al Dhaid, Kalba, and Khorfakkan are perfectly positioned to feed into this broader national pipeline.

Beyond technology, the Sharjah Sports Council is also prioritizing the human element of mentorship and institutional transparency. The board recently reviewed drafts of its organizational structure and discussed vital governance updates focusing heavily on institutional transparency. In the same meeting, the Chairman suggested implementing monthly employee sessions featuring a recognized champion to share real-world experiences and achievements. This strategy is purposefully aimed at fostering a culture of motivation, continuous learning, and boundless creativity within the council itself. Furthermore, Secretary-General Mohammed Obaid Al Hosan proposed officially honoring distinguished individuals from the emirate who have successfully represented the UAE on the international stage, cementing a culture of profound respect and recognition.

Ultimately, by bridging cutting-edge digital platforms with passionate community outreach, Sharjah is setting a brilliant new standard. As the sports council pushes forward with its plans, the emirate is rapidly cementing its reputation as a premier destination for discovering, nurturing, and celebrating world-class athletic potential.
