The Women and Children’s Hospital at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City – Ajman achieves the esteemed Centre of Excellence status, marking a significant milestone for maternal and pediatric healthcare in the Northern Emirates.

In a brilliant display of clinical excellence and unwavering dedication to patient care, the Women and Children’s Hospital at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City – Ajman (SKMCA) has been awarded the highly prestigious Australian Council on Healthcare Standards International (ACHS International) Centre of Excellence (CoE) recognition. Governed by The Medical Office, a vital subsidiary of the UAE’s leading healthcare network, PureHealth, the hospital earned this remarkable distinction in the highly specialised fields of obstetrics, gynaecology, and paediatrics.

This outstanding achievement profoundly underscores SKMCA‘s continued commitment to delivering high-quality, integrated, and deeply patient-centred healthcare for women, newborns, and children across the Northern Emirates. By securing the ACHS International CoE status, the medical city has firmly cemented its reputation as a trusted leader in specialized, compassionate medical service delivery.

A Pillar of Community Health in Ajman

Operating as a critical cornerstone of the regional healthcare infrastructure, the Women and Children’s Hospital at SKMCA currently serves more than 1,326 admitted patients annually. This high volume reflects its fundamentally important role in supporting and safeguarding the health of vulnerable demographics, specifically women, newborns, and children, residing in Ajman and the surrounding Northern Emirates.

The new CoE recognition further reinforces SKMCA‘s overarching institutional vision of providing evidence-based, comprehensive, and meticulously coordinated healthcare services that intuitively meet the complex needs of patients at every single stage of life.

Highlighting the incredible dedication of the hospital’s medical teams, Khamis Al Mansoori, the Chief Executive Officer of SKMCA, expressed immense pride in the facility’s latest milestone:

“We remain committed to delivering the highest standards of care for mothers, newborns and children through effective clinical governance, multidisciplinary collaboration and a culture of continuous improvement,” he stated, noting that the recognition perfectly reflects the medical city’s unwavering commitment to quality, patient safety, and genuinely patient-centred care.

Comprehensive Care and Remarkable Statistics

The scope of services offered at the newly recognized facility is exceptionally broad. The Women and Children’s Hospital provides a highly comprehensive range of specialized medical treatments, spanning obstetrics, gynaecology, and paediatrics. Key services include advanced maternity and high-risk pregnancy care, comprehensive women’s health screening, fertility assessments, and leading-edge neonatal and paediatric medicine. Furthermore, the hospital boasts highly robust paediatric emergency and critical care units, alongside specialized paediatric services in surgery, endocrinology, neurology, gastroenterology, and cardiology.

The operational scale of the hospital is a testament to its critical regional importance. In the previous year (2025), the hospital successfully managed 2,216 deliveries and complex high-risk pregnancies. Concurrently, its dedicated emergency departments recorded an astonishing 34,078 paediatric emergency visits, demonstrating the facility’s vital role as a primary frontline responder for the community’s youngest residents.

The Path to Global Recognition

Securing the ACHS International Centre of Excellence status was not a momentary triumph, but rather the culmination of rigorous, sustained systemic improvements. The highly sought-after recognition followed a deeply thorough series of quality initiatives spearheaded by SKMCA leadership. These proactive measures included significant enhancements to everyday clinical processes, heavily strengthened institutional governance frameworks, and the precise development of measurable key performance indicators. Regular internal audits and the continuous, data-driven monitoring of patient outcomes ensured that the hospital exceeded stringent global healthcare standards.

Today, these world-class services are delivered by a dedicated, highly skilled team of 57 physicians and 155 nurses. Brilliantly supported by a network of allied health professionals and administrative staff, this unified team at SKMCA continues to advance the frontiers of women’s and children’s health in Ajman, ensuring a safer, healthier future for the entire region.
