The roaring engines of marine motorsport have just witnessed a spectacular moment in history, thanks to a trailblazing Emirati talent. Alia Abdulsalam Fairooz has achieved an exceptional sporting milestone after successfully surpassing the previous world speed record in the fiercely competitive Formula 4 powerboat category. Clocking an astonishing 129 km/h over a one-kilometre distance, the young Emirati sensation unseated British racer John Brewer, who formerly held the title at 128.7 km/h.

Defying Limits on Lake Songe

The incredible achievement was made during a highly anticipated official speed attempt held yesterday on the pristine yet challenging waters of the renowned Lake Songe in the Kingdom of Norway. This remarkable achievement reflects the highly advanced level reached by Emirati marine motorsport on a global scale. Furthermore, it powerfully highlights the presence of Emirati women and their extraordinary ability to compete, dominate, and achieve success at the absolute highest levels on the global sporting stage.

Formula 4 powerboat racing is renowned for demanding not just raw courage, but immense technical precision. Navigating a lightweight craft at breakneck speeds requires a deep understanding of aerodynamics, water conditions, and engine tuning. To prepare for this, Alia underwent an intensive programme of technical trials and preparation lasting three grueling weeks. During this rigorous training camp, she worked closely with her technical team to fine-tune the boat’s mechanics and develop her own performance, gradually pushing the boundaries to reach the target speed. This accomplishment follows an outstanding technical performance during the preparation period, demonstrating that this Emirati champion is more than ready for the world stage.

A Legacy of Marine Motorsport

Alia’s connection to the water is deeply rooted in her family’s heritage. Her father, Abdul Salam Fairooz, was a legendary figure in Formula 2 racing during the 1990s, setting a high benchmark for sporting excellence in the UAE.

Speaking to The National about her unique journey into the sport, she shared:

“At the beginning, I was looking up to my father mostly. Seeing him race and his involvement in the sport so passionately encouraged me to start. Aside from that, I loved the sea and I liked to be challenged. So, all three combined, I got into sports. I played a lot of football and also tried jiu-jitsu, but it is powerboat racing that I fell in love with after my first try”.

Today, Alia is entirely focused on cementing her own legacy. The young Emirati racer is currently preparing for her official participation in an upcoming, highly prestigious international competition scheduled for November in the United Kingdom.

Paving the Way for Future Generations

The record-breaking event in Norway took place under the strict supervision of relevant international authorities and federations. They are now completing the official certification procedures to cement the new Formula 4 world record firmly under Alia Abdulsalam’s name. This historic ratification will make her the very first Emirati female racer to achieve such a milestone in the history of marine speed sports.

With heavy backing from major UAE entities, her journey is also a testament to national pride. Supported by partners like the Nirvana Holding Group and 9 Yards Communications, she has the resources to match her incredible ambition. Addressing her fans and supporters in a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Alia noted:

“The support gives me and my team a strong morale boost as we strive to achieve titles. Our goal is clear: to compete for advanced positions in all championships and represent the UAE in an honourable manner in international forums”.

As Alia sets her sights on the waters of the United Kingdom this November, the entire Formula 4 community will be watching. Her remarkable journey from the shores of the UAE to the record books of Norway proves that passion, heritage, and relentless dedication can shatter any ceiling.
