Federal Authority for Government Human Resources confirms reduced Ramadan working hours across UAE government entities; private sector staff entitled to mandatory two-hour daily reduction
The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) has officially announced the Ramadan 2026 working hours in the UAE, confirming reduced working hours for federal government entities during the Holy Month.
According to the official statement, public sector working hours during Ramadan 2026 will be as follows:
- Monday to Thursday: 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM
- Friday: 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
The authority added that government entities may introduce flexible working arrangements to further support employees, including remote working options on Fridays. However, remote work is capped at 70 per cent of a government entity’s workforce, ensuring operational continuity while enhancing employee wellbeing.
Ramadan 2026 Start Date in the UAE
Based on astronomical calculations, 19 February 2026 is projected to be the most likely first day of Ramadan in the UAE and across most Islamic countries. The official start date remains subject to the UAE’s moon sighting committee confirmation.
Private Sector Ramadan Working Hours in the UAE
Under Cabinet Resolution No. 1 of 2022, private sector employees regulated by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) are legally entitled to a mandatory reduction of two working hours per day during Ramadan.
The regulation applies universally to all private sector employees in the UAE, regardless of:
- Seniority
- Religion
- Role or designation
This measure reinforces the UAE’s commitment to employee well-being while maintaining productivity across both public and private sectors during the Holy Month.
