The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park has reached 3,860 MW, triggering a sharp upgrade of Dubai’s 2030 clean energy target to over 7,260 MW.

Dubai’s landmark renewable energy initiative, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, has reached a record installed capacity of 3,860 megawatts (MW) in 2025, marking a major milestone in the emirate’s clean energy transition.

The latest expansion represents an increase of more than 20 per cent in a single year, following the addition of 800 MW generated through a combination of photovoltaic (PV) solar panels and concentrated solar power (CSP) technologies. The project now accounts for approximately 21.5 per cent of the total power generation capacity of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).

2030 Capacity Target Raised Sharply

Driven by the pace of development and strong investor interest, authorities have revised the solar park’s 2030 production target upward, increasing it from 5,000 MW to more than 7,260 MW. Clean energy sources are now expected to contribute around 34 per cent of Dubai’s total electricity generation capacity within the next five years. The latest additions were delivered under the project’s sixth phase, reinforcing Dubai’s position as a global leader in utility-scale renewable energy deployment.

Seventh Phase to Add Storage-Linked Solar Capacity

In 2025, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority launched the tender for the seventh phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. The phase is expected to add approximately 2,000 MW of solar capacity, integrated with energy storage systems totalling 1,400 megawatt-hours (MWh).

Once operational, the storage infrastructure will enable the generation of 8,400 MWh of stored clean energy, placing the project among the largest solar power facilities globally to be integrated with energy storage at scale.

Guinness World Record Strengthens Global Standing

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park has reached 3,860 MW, triggering a sharp upgrade of Dubai’s 2030 clean energy target further strengthened its international profile in 2025 by achieving a Guinness World Record for the highest capacity produced by a concentrated solar power plant operated by a single entity.

The CSP capacity of the fourth phase reached 700 MW, underscoring Dubai’s leadership in deploying advanced clean energy technologies at scale.

Major Environmental and Economic Impact

Upon achieving its enhanced 2030 capacity target, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is expected to deliver annual carbon emission reductions exceeding 8.5 million tonnes, supporting the objectives of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Carbon Neutrality Strategy 2050.

Beyond environmental gains, the project continues to attract strong interest from international and regional developers, with dozens of companies expressing preliminary commitments to participate in future phases. The sustained investor appetite highlights the project’s economic viability under the independent power producer (IPP) model, which has played a central role in mobilising private sector capital.
