Anthropic IPO 2026 Gulf sovereign funds AI
Gulf sovereign funds including MGX and QIA invested $7.5 billion in Anthropic and stand to benefit significantly from a $2 trillion October IPO.

Anthropic, the AI safety company behind the Claude model family, is targeting a $2 trillion or more valuation in an initial public offering expected in October 2026. That figure, reported by the Financial Times and confirmed by multiple Anthropic investors, would make it the largest IPO in history, surpassing the SpaceX listing of June 2026 at $1.77 trillion. Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan are leading the offering. The company filed a confidential draft registration statement with the SEC in June 2026 and is now in the final stages of preparation for what would be the most significant public market debut in the history of artificial intelligence. For the Gulf sovereign funds that had the conviction to invest early in Anthropic, the October listing represents one of the most commercially significant returns on an AI investment any institution has generated anywhere in the world.

The Gulf’s involvement in Anthropic’s funding rounds has been one of the most closely watched dynamics in global AI investment over the past two years. The Qatar Investment Authority, Abu Dhabi’s MGX, established by Mubadala and G42, and Alpha Wave, majority-owned by entities of Abu Dhabi’s Royal Group, are among the backers that stand to benefit from a $2 trillion listing. Gulf sovereign funds committed an estimated $7.5 billion to Anthropic’s earlier funding rounds according to Global SWF research. QIA participated in three consecutive funding rounds including the Series F. MGX co-led the $30 billion Series G at a $380 billion valuation alongside GIC and Coatue. Both funds are on the cap table ahead of the IPO. Analysts at AGBI described the Gulf funds as having played this right, with an Anthropic listing representing a notable success in their technology diversification drive.

“The Gulf sovereign funds played this right, and an Anthropic listing would be a notable success in their technology diversification drive. The $2 trillion IPO valuation would largely benefit the early backers, who could monetise their stakes or double down, as we saw with SpaceX.”

The Revenue Story Behind the $2 Trillion Valuation

The valuation is not speculative. It is built on a revenue trajectory that has been extraordinary by any measure. Anthropic’s annualised revenue reached $47 billion in May 2026. By the second quarter of 2026, quarterly revenue had nearly reached $11 billion, more than double the $4.8 billion of the first quarter. Investors backing the $2 trillion valuation are projecting annualised revenue of between $100 billion and $120 billion by the end of 2026, a more than tenfold increase over the course of the year. If that trajectory holds, and the investors closest to the company’s financials believe it will, the valuation multiples being applied to Anthropic are not dissimilar to those applied to other high-growth technology companies at comparable stages of their development. The company is also building its own AI chips to meet surging demand, reducing its dependence on third-party hardware supply chains and improving its long-term unit economics.

Anthropic’s competitive position has strengthened materially in 2026. The company’s valuation surpassed OpenAI’s for the first time in May 2026, reaching $965 billion after the $65 billion Series H. It is the third major AI company to move toward a public listing in 2026, following Cerebras at $70 billion on the Nasdaq in May and ahead of rival OpenAI. The company has gained ground against OpenAI and Google by selling its models to enterprise customers directly, a route to market that generates higher-margin, stickier revenue than consumer subscriptions and that scales well as enterprise AI adoption accelerates across every sector of the global economy.

What the Anthropic IPO Means for the UAE AI Strategy

The Anthropic IPO is significant for the UAE beyond the direct financial returns it will generate for MGX and the broader Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth ecosystem. It validates a technology investment thesis that the UAE has been executing consistently and at scale: the conviction that the most valuable AI companies in the world would be built in the United States but that global capital, including Gulf sovereign capital, would play a material role in funding them, and that the UAE’s own AI infrastructure investment would benefit from the relationships, the technology access and the policy influence that early-stage AI investment generates. The Country Group A:5 reclassification, the AI campus partnership with Nvidia, the G42 and Core42 chip access, all of these are downstream consequences of a sustained diplomatic and investment engagement with the US AI ecosystem of which the Anthropic investment is one of the most visible expressions. The $2 trillion listing, if it proceeds as investors expect, will be the financial validation of that strategy at a scale that even the most optimistic projections from two years ago would have struggled to anticipate.

“Anthropic’s annualised revenue reached $47 billion in May 2026. By Q2 2026, quarterly revenue had nearly reached $11 billion, more than double Q1. Investors are projecting annualised revenue of $100 billion to $120 billion by year end, representing more than tenfold growth over the course of 2026 alone.”
