A devastating wave of international outrage has erupted following recent actions in Jerusalem, drawing a sharp rebuke from the Arab Parliament. At the center of the diplomatic storm, Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi, the Speaker of the Arab Parliament, has vehemently condemned the highly provocative incursion by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. The incident has once again ignited intense fears regarding the fragility of peace and the ongoing violations of the holy site’s deeply established sanctity, prompting immediate calls for global intervention.

Speaker of the Arab Parliament Condemns Ben-Gvir’s Al-Aqsa Incursion.

In a strongly worded official statement issued on Thursday, Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi made it unequivocally clear that the actions of the extremist minister are entirely unacceptable on the global stage. He described the aggressive incursion as a “flagrant violation of the historical and legal status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque, as well as of international law and relevant international resolutions.”

The Threat to the Historical Status Quo

The Al-Aqsa Mosque, which spans 144 dunams in occupied Jerusalem, is recognized internationally as an exclusive place of worship for Muslims. For decades, a delicate historical and legal status quo has governed the compound, ensuring its administration by the Jordanian Jerusalem Waqf and strictly prohibiting non-Muslim worship on the premises.

However, systematic incursions led by radical political figures like Ben-Gvir represent a calculated, dangerous strategy. By repeatedly storming the courtyards of the mosque under heavy police protection, extremist groups are attempting to normalize their unauthorized presence. Palestinians and the broader Arab world view these actions as a perilous prelude to the spatial and temporal division of the holy site, a move that fundamentally threatens the religious and cultural integrity of the area.

Speaking on the broader implications of these ongoing violations, the Speaker of the Arab Parliament has consistently warned that such provocations only serve to drastically heighten tensions across the region. The blatant disregard for the established norms at Al-Aqsa constitutes a severe infringement on the freedom of worship and a deliberate effort to alter the profound Arab and Islamic identity of Jerusalem.

A Call for Urgent International Intervention

Recognizing that strongly worded condemnations are no longer sufficient to deter these aggressive policies, Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi utilized his prominent platform to demand immediate, concrete action from the global community. The Arab Parliament understands that the preservation of Jerusalem’s holy sites is not merely a regional issue, but a critical matter of international legal obligation that requires global enforcement.

In his Thursday address, Al Yamahi issued a direct and urgent appeal to global institutions. He formally called on the international community, the United Nations, and UNESCO to “take urgent measures to stop these violations, provide international protection for holy sites, and hold those responsible to account.”

This appeal to UNESCO is particularly significant, given the organization’s core mandate to protect world heritage and its previous resolutions affirming the Islamic heritage of the Al-Aqsa compound. By invoking the United Nations, the Speaker of the Arab Parliament is demanding that the Security Council and other international bodies move beyond rhetoric and implement tangible mechanisms to shield Palestinian worshippers and safeguard the sanctity of the site from systemic Israeli encroachment.

A Unified Stance Against Escalation

The incursion by Ben-Gvir has drawn widespread condemnation not just from the Arab Parliament, but from governments across the Middle East and the wider Islamic world. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the explosive nature of Jerusalem’s holy sites and the desperate need for international accountability.

As the geopolitical situation remains incredibly volatile, the decisive leadership of Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi highlights a unified Arab demand: the absolute preservation of Al-Aqsa and the immediate cessation of all provocative actions that threaten to push the region toward an uncontrollable conflict. Until the international community acts decisively, the fragile status quo remains under severe and devastating threat.
