Recognizing the critical importance of global food security and agricultural innovation, a promising new chapter in international trade is currently unfolding. During a recent high-level diplomatic and economic mission to North America, the Dubai Chambers initiated strategic discussions to dramatically enhance bilateral cooperation in the food industries with Ontario, Canada’s largest provincial economy. This pivotal meeting underscores a mutual commitment to leveraging advanced agritech and sustainable trade networks to secure a highly resilient future for both regions.

A Promising Alliance: Dubai Chambers and Ontario Forge New Paths in the Food Industries

The delegation, led by key Emirati economic figures, traveled directly to Toronto to meet with the Honourable Trevor Jones, Ontario’s Minister of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness. The primary objective of the session was to pinpoint precise avenues for expanding joint ventures in food trade, agricultural technology, and cutting-edge food processing. With global supply chains constantly facing new pressures, aligning with a major agricultural powerhouse like Ontario provides Dubai with a strategic advantage in securing diverse, high-quality food sources.

Representing the UAE’s commercial interests, the meeting was spearheaded by Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, Chairman of Dubai Chambers, alongside Mohammad Ali Rashed Lootah, the President and CEO. They systematically outlined the unique competitive advantages that the emirate provides to Canadian enterprises operating within the food industry. By utilizing Dubai as a central hub, North American agricultural firms gain frictionless access to expansive, high-demand markets across the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia. The emirate’s world-class logistics infrastructure, business-friendly regulatory framework, and strategic geographic positioning make it an unparalleled gateway for global expansion.

Emphasizing the long-term vision behind these diplomatic efforts, Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori provided an authentic perspective on the partnership. As officially reported by Zawya, he stated: “Dubai and Canada are building a strong economic partnership shaped by shared interests and a common vision for future growth. As the global economy continues to evolve at pace, it is increasingly important to broaden cooperation between our business communities and explore new opportunities in high-value sectors. We are focused on deepening business ties with Canada in a way that supports trade and investment flows, opens wider opportunities for companies, and reinforces the foundations of a long-term economic partnership that delivers mutual benefit.”

This push for deeper integration is fully backed by surging economic data. The trade momentum between the two jurisdictions has reached unprecedented levels. In 2025, the total value of non-oil trade between Dubai and Canada soared to AED 12.6 billion, marking a highly impressive 23.2 percent growth rate compared to the previous year.

To sustain and accelerate this upward trajectory, the Dubai International Chamber, which operates under the broader umbrella of Dubai Chambers, officially inaugurated its very first North American representative office in Toronto in June 2025. This dedicated office acts as a vital conduit, actively working alongside the Canadian business community to identify mutually beneficial public and private sector partnerships. It offers Canadian exporters vital on-the-ground market intelligence, significantly reducing the friction of establishing a commercial footprint in the UAE.

These strategic talks in Ontario are a core component of the ambitious ‘Growth Corridors’ initiative. Designed to meticulously expand trade and investment cooperation with the world’s most promising markets, this initiative empowers Dubai-based companies to navigate global economic shifts and regulatory changes with total confidence and operational efficiency. Furthermore, by focusing specifically on advanced agritech and modernized food systems, both regions are directly addressing the pressing challenges of global food security and climate-resilient agriculture. By cementing this vital relationship, Dubai is taking a definitive step toward ensuring long-term economic diversification and securing its standing as the ultimate global epicenter for sustainable food industries.
