Dubai Health Opens New Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, Strengthens Specialised Paediatric Services with Support from Mohamed Saleh Abdulla
Dubai, UAE: Dubai Health has inaugurated a Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) at Al Jalila Children’s Hospital, marking a significant step forward in expanding specialised cardiac care services for children across the UAE.
The new unit has been developed through Al Jalila Foundation’s ‘The Hope Fund’, with support from philanthropist Mohamed Saleh Abdulla, whose contribution played a key role in bringing the project to life.
The inauguration was attended by senior healthcare leaders, including Dr. Amer Sharif, CEO of Dubai Health, alongside key officials from Al Jalila Children’s Hospital and Al Jalila Foundation, reflecting the importance of the initiative within the UAE’s healthcare landscape.
The newly launched CICU is designed to enhance Dubai Health’s ability to deliver advanced, specialised cardiac treatment for children, supporting complex cases that require intensive monitoring and multidisciplinary care. The facility also reflects a patient- and family-centred approach, allowing parents to remain close to their children with dedicated spaces designed for comfort and support.
Al Jalila Children’s Hospital already performs approximately 200 paediatric cardiac surgeries annually, in addition to more than 300 cardiac catheterisation procedures, highlighting the growing demand for specialised cardiac services and the need for advanced intensive care infrastructure.
The addition of the ten-bed Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit strengthens the hospital’s ability to provide a complete continuum of cardiac care, from diagnosis and surgery to post-operative recovery and long-term treatment.
Mohamed Saleh Abdulla said that supporting children’s healthcare represents an investment in future generations, emphasising the role of community partnerships in expanding access to specialised medical services and improving patient outcomes.
Officials from Al Jalila Foundation highlighted that the project reflects ongoing efforts to expand access to advanced healthcare services through collaborative initiatives that support the wider healthcare ecosystem and improve quality of life for patients.
The initiative is part of ‘The Hope Fund’, a flagship programme by Al Jalila Foundation aimed at supporting the development of healthcare facilities and enabling access to specialised treatments for patients in need. Through partnerships and donor contributions, the fund continues to play a vital role in strengthening Dubai’s healthcare infrastructure.
Dubai Health noted that the new unit aligns with its “Patient First” commitment, reinforcing its mission to deliver high-quality, specialised care while supporting families throughout their healthcare journey.
