In an absolute masterclass of endurance and tactical grit, UAE Team Emirates-XRG rider Jhonatan Narváez has delivered a stunning stage 3 victory at the 2026 Tour de Suisse. Surviving a grueling 105-kilometer breakaway through punishing rain and electrical storms, the Ecuadorian puncher kept the charging peloton at bay, proving once again that the UAE-backed Emirates-XRG squad dominates the Tour de Suisse on every imaginable terrain.

The 157.9-kilometer route, starting and finishing in the picturesque town of Bad Ragaz, featured two brutal Category 1 climbs in its first half before flattening out for a terrifyingly fast pursuit. Early into the mountainous chaos, Narváez recognized the perfect moment to launch an attack on the steep ramps of the Schwägalp Passhöhe. Accompanied by Xandro Meurisse of Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling, the two men established a formidable gap that ultimately ballooned to over four minutes.
For the peloton, what initially seemed like a manageable breakaway quickly evolved into a high-speed nightmare. Downpours and violent crosswinds battered the chase groups. Even as powerhouse sprint squads like Visma | Lease a Bike and EF Education-EasyPost drove the pace furiously to reel them in, the leading duo flatly refused to crack. The wet roads made cornering treacherous for the massive peloton, granting the agile two-man breakaway a crucial technical advantage as they rode through the soaked Swiss valleys.
With just ten kilometers remaining, the gap hovered agonizingly close to the one-minute mark. It became a pure game of survival, burning the final matches of energy. Inside the last three kilometers, severe thunderstorms actually knocked out the live television broadcasting signal, leaving fans completely in the dark during the climax. However, the live timing ticker painted a clear picture of the drama unfolding on the tarmac: Narváez and Meurisse were holding off the massive chasing pack by a matter of mere seconds.
As the road reared up slightly in the final kilometer, the Emirates-XRG powerhouse spotted his opportunity. Packing an unanswerable punch in the final 300 meters, Narváez launched a devastating, seated sprint, completely overpowering Meurisse to snatch the win right from under his nose. The charging bunch, led by Magnus Cort of Uno-X Mobility, arrived just moments later to mop up third place on the exact same finishing time, a tantalizingly close finish.
Speaking to the official UAE Team Emirates website after catching his breath, Narváez detailed the immense physical toll of the stage. “It was a hard day. Especially in the last part, it was a headwind, and we rode full, Xandro Meurisse and me. So I am happy. We rode really good in the final,” he stated. Reflecting on the squad’s dynamic internal tactics, he added, “We did a mistake yesterday, and today, two riders from the team were free to chase a stage win, so I tried to go into the breakaway. Then we just rode full gas with Xandro. I am happy to have had the chance today.”
This spectacular win marks the 41st victory of the campaign for the Emirati squad and further cements Narváez’s brilliant season, coming just weeks after his massive three-stage haul at the Giro d’Italia.
Behind the breakaway heroics, team leader Tadej Pogačar finished safely nestled within the peloton to retain his commanding grip on the yellow jersey. The Slovenian maestro continues to hold a massive two-minute and fifty-second advantage over his closest rival, Richard Carapaz. With only two stages remaining in this year’s Tour de Suisse, UAE Team Emirates-XRG looks completely untouchable, perfectly balancing individual rider freedom with absolute team supremacy.
