Gold Prices Retreat Below Two-Week High Ahead of Crucial Fed Minutes.

The global precious metals market is experiencing a wave of cautious hesitation. Gold prices eased on Tuesday, trading steadily below a ‌two-week high, as global investors eagerly awaited the release of the US Federal Reserve’s June meeting minutes. This crucial document is expected to provide much-needed insight into the monetary policy direction under the leadership of the new Federal Reserve Chair, Kevin Warsh. With market volatility remaining a persistent concern in 2026, the trajectory of Spot gold and other safe-haven assets hangs delicately in the balance.

Understanding the Immediate Price Movements

During the early trading hours by 0232 GMT, Spot gold experienced a noticeable dip, falling 0.6 percent to settle at $4,138.32 per ounce. Similarly, US gold futures for August delivery eased by 0.4 percent, trading at $4,149.90. This downward shift in Gold prices comes after the precious metal had recently surged to multi-week highs following weaker-than-expected US employment data, which initially fueled hopes of a near-term interest rate cut.

The current pullback reflects a market that is consolidating its positions. While Spot gold has shown remarkable resilience throughout the first half of 2026, weathering geopolitical tensions and shifting inflationary pressures, investors are now adopting a “wait and see” approach. The upcoming minutes from the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting, held on June 16-17, are acting as a significant psychological barrier, preventing Gold prices from breaking out into a definitive upward rally.

Spot Gold Holds Steady Near Two-Week High Amid Shifting Federal Reserve Expectations

The Kevin Warsh Factor: Decoding the Federal Reserve’s Next Move

A central driver of the current hesitation in Gold prices is the market’s attempt to decode the monetary policy strategy of Kevin Warsh, who officially took over as the 17th chair of the Federal Reserve in May 2026. Replacing Jerome Powell, Warsh stepped into the role during a period of complex economic challenges, including persistent inflation and fluctuating labor markets.

At his inaugural meeting as Fed chair in June, Warsh notably removed explicit forward guidance regarding the likely direction of future interest rate adjustments, stating that the central bank requires maximum flexibility to respond to rapidly evolving economic conditions. Consequently, the highly anticipated June meeting minutes are expected to reveal the internal debates among Fed officials. Currently, market participants are pricing in roughly a 50 to 56 percent probability of an interest rate increase by September. Higher interest rates typically exert downward pressure on Spot gold, as they raise the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding bullion.

Impact on Spot Silver and Other Precious Metals

The cautious sentiment rippling through the gold market has inevitably spilled over into the broader precious metals sector. On Tuesday, spot silver took a heavier hit, slipping 1 percent to trade at $61.48 per ounce. Because silver possesses both safe-haven appeal and substantial industrial applications, spot silver often exhibits higher volatility compared to gold, making it particularly sensitive to shifts in US monetary policy and global economic growth forecasts.

Elsewhere in the metals complex, the performance was mixed. Platinum eased by 0.1 percent to $1,629.46 per ounce, struggling to maintain upward momentum amid the broader market caution. Conversely, palladium managed to buck the downward trend, rising 0.4 percent to $1,272.85 per ounce, supported by specific supply-demand dynamics within the automotive sector.

Expert Perspectives and Future Outlook

Financial analysts are closely monitoring the macroeconomic indicators that are currently suppressing the upside potential of precious metals. Speaking to Gulf News, financial market analyst Tran highlighted the ongoing challenges facing the bullion market.

“Although the DXY [US Dollar Index] has cooled, it remains elevated around the 100.5–100.6 area, while the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield is hovering near 4.48%,” she stated. “These remain two key sources of pressure on gold, as a stronger U.S. dollar and higher yields reduce the appeal of non-yielding assets.”

Furthermore, domestic markets are also adjusting to these international shifts. Manoj Kumar Jain, an analyst at Prithvi Finmart, provided a technical perspective on the ongoing price action. Noting the critical support and resistance levels, Jain advised traders to maintain strict discipline. He highlighted that while the broader trend remains fundamentally supportive of precious metals, the immediate term requires careful navigation, recommending that investors buy on dips while strictly adhering to stop-loss levels.

As Wednesday approaches, all eyes remain firmly fixed on Washington. The release of the Fed minutes will undoubtedly serve as the next major catalyst, dictating whether Gold prices, Spot gold, and spot silver will resume their upward climb or face a deeper, more sustained correction.
