Commuters can finally look forward to a brilliant transformation on the roads, as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) officially launches a massive wave of traffic improvements across Dubai. Designed to eliminate notorious bottlenecks and dramatically slash commute times, this new RTA initiative tackles heavy traffic hotspots head-on, ensuring seamless mobility that fully supports Dubai’s rapidly expanding urban population. Dubbed the “Quick Wins” programme, this highly strategic initiative spans 28 critical locations and is set for execution between July and September 2026.

By accelerating infrastructure development, the city continues to cement its reputation as a globally leading metropolis for urban transport efficiency.

Strategic Summer Execution

The timing of this infrastructure overhaul is entirely deliberate. The RTA has specifically scheduled these comprehensive works during the summer holiday period. By capitalizing on significantly lower seasonal traffic volumes, engineering teams can complete projects at a much faster rate while simultaneously minimizing daily disruptions for the average motorist.

The extensive programme encompasses four high-priority locations surrounding school zones, three locations situated within rapidly growing development areas, and 21 additional locations distributed across various high-density parts of Dubai.

According to the official announcement released by the Dubai Media Office and WAM, these rapid upgrades are foundational to the city’s future mobility blueprint:

“The works form part of RTA’s ongoing efforts to enhance the road network, improve operational efficiency, ensure smoother traffic flow and higher safety levels, and strengthen connectivity between residential areas, educational zones, and development areas.”

Slashing Commute Times on Emirates Road

One of the absolute flagship initiatives within the “Quick Wins” framework is the highly anticipated expansion of Emirates Road. As one of the most critical arterial corridors linking Dubai with the neighboring Emirate of Sharjah, this route frequently experiences severe congestion during morning and evening rush hours.

To combat this, the RTA is adding two brand-new lanes along a vital five-kilometre stretch extending from the Sharjah border towards Al Amardi Street. The authority expects this massive capacity boost to successfully reduce peak-hour congestion and cut overall journey times by a staggering 25 percent, delivering immediate relief to thousands of daily inter-emirate commuters.

Enhancing Commercial Hubs and Residential Access

Beyond the major highways, the RTA is implementing hyper-focused upgrades to improve daily intersection efficiency across busy commercial and industrial districts. Notable projects include enhanced traffic flow systems at the intersection of Trade Centre Street and Marasi Drive in the bustling Business Bay area. Additionally, Latifa Bint Hamdan Street near the Al Quoz Industrial Area and Ras Al Khor Road towards Al Khail Road will undergo targeted capacity improvements to accommodate soaring vehicle volumes.

Residential accessibility is also a primary target. To reduce frustrating vehicle queues near housing communities, the RTA is adding a new lane at the Al Khawaneej Street and Al Amardi Street intersection. Furthermore, the authority is expanding the right-turn movement on Ras Al Khor Road towards the Dubai–Al Ain Road from one lane to two, and significantly widening Algeria Street in Al Mizhar 4 near local labor accommodations.

A Data-Driven Approach to School Safety

Ahead of the new academic year, student safety and drop-off efficiency are receiving a major upgrade. The RTA is actively constructing new, optimized parking spaces for the Zayed Educational Complex in Al Mizhar 2, along with expanded parking facilities for Horizon International School in Umm Al Sheif. These strategic additions will drastically facilitate smoother entry and exit for parents, staff, and dedicated school transport fleets.

The success of the “Quick Wins” programme lies in its methodology. The RTA confirmed that every selected site was identified through rigorous, specialized technical field studies. By heavily utilizing historical traffic data, advanced intelligent transport systems, surveillance camera analytics, and direct public feedback, Dubai is perfectly positioning its road network to be smarter, safer, and infinitely more efficient for all users.
