A sweeping new Emiri Decree strengthens the emirate’s legal framework, ensuring efficiency, fairness, and a robust future for the local judicial system.

The Emirate of Sharjah is celebrating a monumental advancement in its legal infrastructure following a landmark decision by its leadership. His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has officially issued a new Emiri Decree appointing a distinguished group of judges across various tiers of the local judicial system. This strategic move not only reinforces the emirate’s commitment to delivering timely justice but also underscores the broader vision of establishing a world-class legal environment that serves both citizens and residents with the highest standards of integrity.

Structuring a Robust Legal Framework

The recent decree carefully allocates high-level legal expertise to the most critical sectors of the emirate’s courts. As detailed in the official announcement, the comprehensive list of appointments brings fresh leadership and deep legal insight to the highest echelons of the judiciary.

According to the official statement released by the Emirates News Agency (WAM):

“According to the decree, the appointments comprise six Court of Cassation judges, 19 Senior Court of Appeal judges, one Advocate General, and five Assistant Chief Prosecutors.”

By introducing six new judicial figures to the Court of Cassation, the highest judicial body capable of considering challenges filed against judgments rendered in the Courts of Appeal, Sharjah is significantly bolstering its capacity to handle complex legal disputes. Furthermore, the addition of 19 Senior Court of Appeal judges ensures that the intermediate appellate levels are well-equipped to process cases swiftly and fairly. The strategic inclusion of a new Advocate General and five Assistant Chief Prosecutors will also empower the Public Prosecution, enhancing the speed and thoroughness of legal investigations and public defense mechanisms.

A Vision for Transparency and Independence

This latest decree by Sheikh Sultan is part of a much larger, ongoing modernization of the Sharjah judicial system. Over the past two years, the emirate has taken decisive steps to reshape its legal landscape, most notably through the enactment of the Judicial Organization Law in 2025. That landmark legislation established the Judicial Council as the supreme authority overseeing the judiciary, with a strict mandate to guarantee judicial independence, integrity, and impartiality.

By continuously appointing highly qualified judges to the Court of Cassation and the Court of Appeal, the leadership is ensuring that the courts have the human capital required to uphold these rigorous standards. These appointments align perfectly with the overarching goal of maintaining a judicial environment where the rule of law remains paramount, and where every individual has fair and equal access to justice.

Empowering the Future of Sharjah’s Courts

The ripple effects of this Emiri Decree extend far beyond the courtroom. A robust, well-staffed judiciary is a foundational pillar for social stability and economic growth. For international businesses, investors, and local entrepreneurs, the knowledge that Sharjah possesses a highly efficient, transparent, and capable legal system is a powerful driver of economic confidence.

The strategic foresight of Sheikh Sultan ensures that the emirate’s legal institutions are not only prepared for the challenges of today but are fully equipped to handle the complexities of the future. The newly appointed judges carry the profound responsibility of interpreting the law, safeguarding public morals, and resolving disputes with absolute impartiality.

As the emirate continues to grow and diversify its economy, the continuous empowerment of its judicial branch remains a top priority. Through this monumental decree, Sharjah has once again demonstrated its unwavering dedication to cultivating a just, secure, and highly progressive society for all its inhabitants.
